Construction Project Management

Why Attend

An incredibly diverse range of commercial, industrial, education, healthcare, transport, leisure and domestic activities take place around the world each day – all enabled by man-made buildings and infrastructure.  In this built environment, construction project teams need to profitably produce buildings that meet the needs of the people that use, manage, operate and maintain them.  This is impossible to achieve without having a clearly defined and well-managed delivery process in place for a project.

This course presents an integrated project delivery process that starts at project inception and continues into a building’s operational life. A journey will then be taken through the different project stages to provide guidance and tools that participants can take back to their workplaces to implement and help improve the management of their projects.

This unique course is based on the Royal Institute of British Architects’ Plan of Work and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors’ New Rules of Measurement (NRM), together with two highly respected publications authored by the Trainer.

Course Methodology

This course is written from the perspective of teams that deliver construction projects.  It uses scenarios, procedures, documents, drawings, images and videos that built environment professionals will be familiar with.

The course is designed to be an interactive learning experience, rather than a lecture.  Course exercises include populating wall-mounted story maps with project activities, responding to a brief using building blocks, reviewing project documentation, and assigning responsibilities for project activities.

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  •  Define the outcomes that clients and their construction project teams need to achieve
  •  Recognize the 12 core principles of construction project delivery
  •  Describe what a project, project management, a project team and a project manager are
  •  Identify the eight stages of the delivery process for a construction project
  •  Understand what key activities should take place at each stage of project delivery
  •  Recognize the key role that commissioning, training and asset documentation play in successful project delivery
  •  Appreciate the need to provide post-handover support to client stakeholders
  •  Share international best practice about the delivery of construction projects
