Course Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:-

  • Describe the role and responsibilities of the various institutional stakeholders and states in legislating, implementing and enforcing maritime safety law and policies
  • Analyze the human element in relation to maritime safety and its legal framework
  • Evaluate the role of communications and navigation in maritime safety law
  • Explain how the carriage of dangerous goods is regulated at the international level Identify the specifics of different ship types for the understanding of maritime safety law Identify the ramifications of non-compliance with various safety laws;
  • Evaluate the impact of the ISM (International Management Code for the Safe Operation of Ships and for Pollution Prevention) Code on maritime safety
  • Explain the international legal framework governing safety of fixed and floating offshore platforms
